Connect the Dots…

La La La La connect the dots!

Patterns can be a very powerful fashion tool. They serve to direct the eye, and when used skillfully, make you appear longer (vertical pattern), wider (horizontal pattern), disguise what you hate and emphasize what you luff, and if you wear them well all of that eye trickery will appear effortless. While it’s sometimes tempting to wear more than one pattern at a time, it can quickly take an outfit from sight for sore eyes to mere eyesore. However, if you have a willing partner (best friends count too!), each choosing a seemingly opposite pattern creates a striking combination.

I grounded my girlie polka dots using earthy colours balanced on top and bottom with a cropped jacket and metallic tights. Jewel tones and neutrals always work well together, so the belt, shoes, and handbag in a rich, regal, purple take the polka dot look from sweet sixteen to sweet 401K! Lastly, a sleek ponytail with full bangs and white heart drop earrings keep it fun and flirty.

Where stripes are concerned, horizontal and vertical stripes are most commonly donned, but Nic really shows the impact that diagonal stripes can have on an outfit as this bold sweater guides the eyes across his torso (it’s ok to let your gaze linger there a moment). The collared shirt in a coordinated neutral and carefully tousled hair give this outfit an Ivy league feel worthy of the Dean’s List, which is echoed with his classic brown leather buckled shoes. Guys, please take note, us ladies are judging your shoes and this jury is never hung!

While it really is about the fashion, connect the dots has plural meaning for us. It is truly amazing to so see the sphere of influence that blog syndication has within the SL fashion community. Our addition to fashion planet, and to Carissa Crimson’s fashion feed of SL brought comments from friends and virtual strangers at our blog and in-world and we love to hear from all of you! It’s just another great way of connecting the dots in SL and we’re quickly finding, it’s a small second world afterall.
