Grey Pride

Fill in the blank: Once you go grey, ____________________

Fashionistas rejoice, New York Fashion Week is in full swing!

Among the hundreds of couture houses that descend upon the city, a handful of stand-out trends rise to the top and take us into the rest of our fashion year. Upon reviewing the coverage of fashion week, a prominent trend was the use of many shades of grey. Once thought of as drab and dowdy, I saw new life injected into the colour and words like subtle, mysterious, and sophisticated soon replaced the aforementioned.

I tried using grey as my base, and then using some brighter colours to give it some “punch” until I realised I was defeating the purpose, and decided on accents in black so as not to take away from the colour du jour.

The ruffle detailed shirt created a feminine base for this outfit (check the style sheets for a peek from behind at the open back detailing!) and I amplified that with strand upon strand of black pearls. This broad black belt cinches at the waist nicely, creating an hourglass silhouette, and the large silver ribbon belt buckle plays well to the outfit’s base. A fitted mini doesn’t overwhelm the ultra detailed upper, and the bare legs will hopefully draw the eye down until they hit those fabulous black lace legwarmers, which give this feminine look some feminedge. Strappy black heels paired with a black leather clutch for my essentials and I’m ready to claim my runway-side seat at the Fashion District’s hottest show.

I’d be awfully lonely sitting alone though, so luckily Nic looks as if he stepped right off the catwalk to join me. He kept his look simple and classic by layering shades of greys against complimentary black. The structured peacoat trench and darker grey turtleneck are keeping him (and me) warm and the colours melt beautifully into the black pants, shoes, and gloves. His hairstyle and grey toned shades keep this look current, and we can both agree – what a difference a grey makes!

p.s. We hope to bring you more trends from NYC’s fashion week soon!

  2. Find it, buy it, wear it, love it!
Thanks for the comment Dove <3. When you said “black saved my life” somewhere an emo kid was happy, if only for a second.
