Urban Legends

“What is the city but the people?”

Today, Nic and I bring you two different takes on the fashion theme “urban”, which like most things in fashion, has a wealth of interpretations. We envisioned these styles in the heart of a city’s downtown scene, but you can really let your imagine take you and your threads anywhere.

When I pulled this outfit together I was reminded of J-Lo’s reality series Dancelife (<3), and I couldn’t help but think this is something Staci might have worn en route to an audition. The cropped shirt and jacket were another great Japanese sim find and I fell in love with the girlie kimono-esque texture of the top offset with the hardened dark brown and skull motif of the jacket. I chose my bottoms carefully and decided upon these stylish, mid-rise cropped pants with a puff bottom which tightly tapers just above the knee. It was important to have considerably more coverage on the bottom because the top is so revealing, a mini skirt would have taken me from the downtown core to the downtown corner. Layered necklaces served to keep the look funky and youthful (especially the hello kitty one!) and both the handbag and shoes were chosen for colours pulled from the shirt layer to keep the outfit unified. The chocolate brown leather cap ties into the richness of the jacket layer, topping off a casual yet stylish city look.

Whereas my style was more modern urban, Nic preferred a more classic urban look, reminiscent of the New York Italian old school. The weathered tweed jacket over a cozy grey hoodie proves that you can mix business with pleasure after all. His distressed jeans and well worn shoes with mismatched laces keep the look casual and it definitely says “I am not a tourist. I hate tourists.” The fingerless gloves and balled fists reminded us both of a young, perhaps more style conscious Rocky Balboa, and the hat allows this outfit to walk the hobo chic line without ever crossing it.

P.S. We want to give a big congrats to all of those involved in the GLAM Magazine launch, including the wonderful coverage given by the bloggers. We had a riot at the after party but no story here. What happens at the after party stays at the after party!
