MOD/no copy/no trans

Today we give our nod, to Mod.

Mod fashion was born in the 60s at the height of the British Invasion on London’s famed Carnaby Street, presumably by those that just weren’t feeling the hippie chic.

The fashion of the era brought us the mainstreaming of the mini skirt, a peacoat resurgence, bold geometric patterns, pop art, and of course, Twiggy, a Mod supermodel icon. Most good fashion trends cycle like clockwork and you can definitely see Mod influences today, in-world and out!

Mine is a fairly tame version of Mod considering some of the haute couture interpretations are almost architectural works of art, but I found this updated style to be more wearable on a day-today basis.

These fantastic Houndstooth shorts were one of my favourite (of many) finds at GiGi’s Boutique and I feel few things speak to London chic as well as the instantly recognizable Houndstooth. From there I added this delightful peacoat-esque top which parts at the ribcage for a glimpse of skin, but I kept it proper by layering a bright white tank underneath. I went black with a pair of knee high boots to channel my inner Nancy Sinatra, and followed suit with my accessories, deciding on some chunky hoop earrings to give this outfit some added geometry. And my big round shades, well they were a must for Mod.

Nic is back (YAY!) and looking stylish as ever in his 21st century Mod ensemble.
Kicking his look off with a black and grey mix sweater in broad horizontal stripes was the beginning of this Prep/Mod/Scene mix-up. It’s made prim and proper with a collared shirt and tie tucked neatly underneath, paired with grey toned tweed slacks. His checkered belt and Vans inspired slip-ons are reminiscent of the geometric Mod patterns of days gone by, now ganked by scenesters worldwide. And his signature mop of coffee hued hair is topped off with an era relevant flat cap which has me half expecting him to burst into a London cockney tirade about the “Queen and all that bollocks.”

As with many huge trends, fashion and music were very closely intertwined where Mod was concerned. The song “Do I Have Your Attention” by the Blood Arm, with the accompanying video, was definitely the inspiration for today’s post with its achromatic colour scheme and brit pop sound, meaning major Mod influence. Oh and it’s half en Francais, J’adore!:

Enjoy your weekend and dance a little!
