Arts Degree Burns

Liberal Arts and Fine Arts majors are noble pursuits for a greater truth. Self realization on a blank canvas, self discovery between the pages of Camus, and that disdainful pity for Business majors who just don’t get it while stuck on their capitalist path. Then comes the reality check, which for an Arts student, is likely to bounce.

That Philosophy Degree marks the start of your student loan payments and can induce a mid-20s crisis a la “What am I going to do with my life now that I figured out what it all means!?” However, we salute you for looking damn good while doing whatever it is you do. This is our ode to the starving Arts students.

Arts students seem to have layering down to a science. From one extreme to another, they can wear nothing but the thinnest sheet of fabric or bundle up in stacks of clothing and it all looks so unintentionally stylish. As a fan of layering, I opted for the latter style and paired a muted babydoll with this fabulously versatile new jacket from Nylon Outfitters. A denim mini kept the bottom understated and my knit knee socks brought out the red in an otherwise neutral toned upper. For Arts student integrity, we’ll pull a Natalie Portman and pretend my t-strap wedges are vegan – hemp anyone? Hot tip: Don’t tell an Arts student that she looks hot (yawn), tell her she looks poetic.

“You’re so poetic, can I paint you…” -Long awkward pause- “In the nude? ” This is the suave of Arts student Nicolas.

You’ll notice Nic and I are both rocking scarves, Muism and Artilleri repectively. I firmly believe that Arts students/alumni have trademarked the scarf as they, and seemingly they alone, reserve the right to wear a scarf independent of weather.

Now, if/when an Arts grad lands a job it’s typically without optical benefits, but we’ll play the cup half full card so Nic can sport his new primOptic specs and deliver the geek chic. He’s also decked out in layers placing a neutral tone vest atop a striking vertical striped button front for a put-together collegiate look in spite of his paint splotched jeans and unkempt hair.

Forget the meaning of life, I think we’re one step closer to the meaning of style.

  3. Every post you two amaze me. So dang creative, you are artists truly. Perfect post. You look adorably smart and shabby chic and Nic is looking very dapper in his specs. Rawking the scarfs!!

Dahl – It’s a brisk 47 degrees here this morning (burrrr, turn the heater on people) and ironically I’m all layered out for this FREEZING weather. I got my Burberry scarf nestled around my neck with my hair tucked inside the scarf keeping me warm-you’d be proud of my layering. ❤

  4. Law – maybe someday we’ll all move to Sweden and become professional students. Score!

Chrisy – Wow, cutest on the planet, thanks! But more importantly, we haz hugs, yay!

    – You always seem to know exactly where we’re coming from with each post and we appreciate your comments so much. ♥ Burberry. Damn girl, you don’t get the chance to scarf it up much, but when you do, you don’t mess around. hi5!
